Contamination is the real prep job

A plant floor that has been running for twenty years has oil, coolant and hydraulic fluid driven down into the concrete. Grinding the surface alone does not solve that, it just exposes clean-looking concrete with contamination underneath waiting to reject the primer. Older stock needs degreasing, sometimes repeated, and a bond test before anything gets specified. This is the step most quotes skip and most failures come from.

Manufacturing floor questions, Oakville.

Our floor has twenty years of oil soaked into it. Can it still be coated?
Usually yes, but the prep is the job. Surface grinding alone leaves contamination below the surface that will reject the primer. We degrease, sometimes more than once, grind or shot blast to the right profile, then bond test before committing to a system. If a contractor quotes that floor without testing it, that is a warning sign.
What resists the chemicals we actually use?
That depends on your list. Novolac epoxy handles inorganic acids well past standard epoxy's limit, including concentrated sulfuric on published data. Urethane systems handle solvent and thermal duty. Standard epoxy is fine for a lot of plants and wrong for some. Send us the chemical list and we will match it against the manufacturer's resistance chart.

How much production time do we lose?
Less than most plants expect. We work cell by cell on nights, weekends and shutdown windows, and fast-cure topcoats bring equipment back onto the floor in as little as 4 hours rather than days.
Our Winston Park plant runs continuously. How do you work around that?
Cell by cell. We take one line or one bay at a time, work nights, weekends and any scheduled shutdown, and coordinate with your millwrights on anything that needs lifting. Fast-cure systems put equipment back on that section within hours, not days.
The slab is soaked in coolant. Can it still take a coating?
Usually, but the preparation is the whole job. We degrease, sometimes repeatedly, grind or shot blast to the profile the system needs, then bond test before committing. Any Oakville shop being quoted a coating on a forty year old contaminated slab without a bond test should ask why.
Our customer audit flagged our floor. Can you help with that specifically?
Yes, and it helps enormously if you send us the finding. An audit note about housekeeping, contamination control or traffic segregation points to a different fix than an audit note about surface condition. Our last coating failed. Why would this be different?
Because we will find out why the last one failed before we quote. Almost every failure we are called to comes down to one of three things: a shake-on hardener that was never removed, slab moisture nobody tested for, or contamination that a surface grind did not reach. If none of those is addressed, the next floor does exactly the same thing.

Two honest notes on timing.
