Bare and worn concrete sheds continuously. In an aircraft environment that is not a housekeeping complaint, it is a risk item with your name on it.

Munro Hamilton International handled 750 million kilograms of landed cargo billable weight in 2025 and describes itself as Canada's largest domestic overnight express cargo airport, with Cargojet, DHL Express, UPS, Canada Post, Purolator and Amazon among the operators. KF Aerospace has broken ground on a Hamilton expansion, and a multi-use and FBO facility broke ground in 2024. Around all of it sits the Airport Employment Growth District in Mount Hope. Hamilton has the oldest industrial building stock of the three. Bayfront and East Hamilton slabs are frequently mid-century, poured without a vapour retarder, finished with a shake-on hardener and carrying decades of oil and coolant. That is a prep problem before it is a coating problem. Red Hill, Ancaster and the airport lands are newer and far more straightforward.
Hangar work at Hamilton brings a scheduling reality that nothing else in this list does: the building has to be empty, the doors are enormous, and the weather gets a vote. A hangar deck cannot be coated with aircraft in it, and once the doors open for movements the temperature and humidity inside stop being controllable. That means hangar jobs get planned around aircraft movements and the season, not around our calendar, and the honest window for most of this work in southern Ontario is spring through autumn unless the building is genuinely heated and sealed.

Skydrol and other phosphate ester hydraulic fluids will destroy the wrong coating. Manufacturers market hangar systems as Skydrol resistant, but that claim is usually marketing copy with no public immersion data attached. Before we specify anything for an MRO bay we require a written resistance statement from the manufacturer covering your actual fluids and dwell times. If they will not put it in writing, we do not use it.

It requires aprons adjacent to access doors to slope away from the hangar, a trench drain running parallel to the access doors to catch spilled fuel before it reaches the apron, and drainage sized so nothing builds up when every fire protection system and hose stream is discharging at design rate. Seamless, monolithic, coved. The argument for FOD control is mechanical: remove the joints and the dusting paste and there is nothing to shed.
