Epoxy vs polyaspartic: which should you choose?

Both are excellent floor coatings, but they are good at different things. Epoxy gives superior build and adhesion as a basecoat; polyaspartic cures fast and resists UV as a topcoat. The strongest floors use both.

When each one wins

Polyaspartic is the better choice when speed and sunlight matter, like a one-day install or a floor that sees daylight. Epoxy is the better base when you want maximum thickness and bond to the concrete. For a garage in Ontario, you want both.

Our recommended system

We install a hybrid system: a diamond-ground slab, an epoxy basecoat for adhesion, a decorative flake broadcast, and a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat that handles freeze-thaw and hot tires. It is the best of both products in one floor.

Frequently asked

Is polyaspartic worth the extra cost?
For most Ontario garages, yes. The fast cure and UV stability are worth it as a topcoat, especially for one-day installs.
Can you put polyaspartic over old epoxy?
Sometimes, but only after proper testing and prep. Often the better long-term result is to grind down and start with a fresh system.
